DT P.R.I.D.E.

From the moment students come together in David Thompson High school, they form a community. They work together on projects, spend time together at recess or during lunch, and begin to establish beliefs about each other based on their initial perceptions and ongoing interactions. Promoting a caring and supportive DT community is an ongoing process that takes time, energy and commitment. It not only involves daily modelling of positive character traits and exemplary behaviour but also requires a solid commitment to establishing meaningful relationships with others (both in the classroom and in the larger school community), encouraging dialogue between all involved (students, teachers, support staff, parents), and making a genuine effort to listen to and understand others.

What are the core values of character and citizenship for the David Thompson High School community?

Positive Attitude - I can choose a positive attitude, focus on what's good, right and wonderful in others and myself. I can learn to be happy with who I am. I can be grateful for what I have: food, age, clothing, your health, education, country, family and friends. I am grateful to be alive.

Respect - I can show respect by speaking and acting with courtesy. I can treat others with dignity and honour the rules of my family, school and country. I can respect myself, and others will respect me.

Integrity - Integrity is living by my highest values. I can be honest and sincere. Integrity helps me to listen to my conscience, to do the right thing, and to tell the truth. Truthfulness and sincerity. I have the ability to be counted on and trusted. I act with integrity when my words and actions match. Integrity gives me self-respect and a peaceful heart.

Diligence - Diligence is working hard and doing my absolute best. I can take special care by doing things step by step. Diligence helps me to get things done with excellence and enthusiasm. Diligence leads to success.

Empathy - I can choose to encourage others in school and throughout the world. I can choose to contribute to the world around me by looking for ways to encourage others, including family, friends and other DT students!

The DT P.R.I.D.E. program is important because it promotes: Justice and Acceptance! I have empathy for beliefs or practices that are different from my own. I may not share or even agree with them, but I recognize their right to exist. I don't let prejudice and bigotry determine who my friends will be. I treat people with respect no matter who they are.
